Liverpool have reportedly been presented with an opportunity to sign Roma midfielder Neil El Aynaoui as clubs across Europe continue to monitor the Morocco international’s growing reputation.
According to TeamTalk, intermediaries have begun sounding out several Premier League clubs over the 25-year-old’s availability, with Liverpool among those made aware of the situation. It is understood that El Aynaoui’s representatives believe there is “a genuine opportunity” for him to secure a move this summer should Roma receive an acceptable offer.
Liverpool’s recruitment team have consistently prioritised technical quality, tactical intelligence and versatility in midfield. El Aynaoui appears to fit that profile, having enhanced his reputation through an impressive 2025/26 campaign in Serie A before carrying that form onto the international stage.
Although there is no indication that Liverpool have opened formal negotiations with Roma, the player’s name is now firmly on the radar as clubs weigh up whether to pursue a deal during the current transfer window.

El Aynaoui’s stock has risen considerably during the World Cup, where Morocco’s run has brought renewed attention to several members of their squad.
One performance in particular appears to have underlined his credentials. Against the Netherlands, El Aynaoui produced an accomplished midfield display that comfortably stood comparison with Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch.
Across 120 minutes, the Roma midfielder completed 135 passes at an outstanding 97 per cent accuracy, won six duels, made four tackles and completed seven accurate long balls. By comparison, Gravenberch completed 18 passes at 75 per cent accuracy before being substituted after 86 minutes.
Those numbers should not be viewed in isolation, but they reinforce the qualities that have made El Aynaoui an increasingly attractive proposition. His composure under pressure, ability to dictate possession and willingness to contribute defensively all stand out in a position where Liverpool continue to value players capable of influencing every phase of play.
Elite recruitment departments rarely make transfer decisions based upon one tournament or one standout performance. Instead, international displays are often used to confirm conclusions already reached through months of scouting.
That appears particularly relevant in El Aynaoui’s case, given that scouts from across Europe have reportedly been “hugely impressed” not only by his World Cup displays but also by his performances throughout the Serie A season and at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Roma could soon face an increasingly difficult decision if interest continues to gather pace.
The midfielder has struggled at times to secure the level of playing time his representatives believe he deserves, leading to suggestions that a move could benefit all parties if the right proposal arrives.
Several clubs have already made contact regarding his situation, believing they can offer a more prominent role than has been available in the Italian capital.
Financially, any deal may prove more complicated than current market estimates suggest. While Football Transfers values El Aynaoui at around €22.3 million, Roma would almost certainly seek considerably more for a player entering his prime who has enhanced his reputation both domestically and internationally.
For Liverpool, any potential move would still need to fit within broader recruitment priorities. The club have generally preferred targeted investment over speculative spending, particularly when strengthening midfield options.
Beyond the headlines generated by his World Cup performances, El Aynaoui’s underlying statistics paint the picture of an exceptionally well-rounded midfielder.
Data from FotMob places him among Serie A’s strongest performers across several key categories. He ranks in the 94th percentile for possession won in the final third, the 91st percentile for interceptions and the 88th percentile for assists among positional peers.
His passing numbers are equally encouraging. An 89.2 per cent pass completion rate, coupled with 66.7 per cent accuracy on long passes and more than 47 successful passes per 90 minutes, underline his reliability in possession.
Those figures suggest a midfielder capable of recovering possession, progressing attacks and maintaining control under pressure rather than specialising in only one aspect of the game.
Whether Liverpool decide to convert their reported interest into concrete negotiations remains to be seen. Much may depend on Roma’s willingness to negotiate and how the remainder of the transfer window develops.
For now, El Aynaoui continues to enhance his reputation every time he steps onto the pitch. If his performances continue at their current level, it would be little surprise if Liverpool are far from the only club seriously considering a move.
