Liverpool Open Michael Olise Talks as Bayern Munich Role Raises Tactical Question

Liverpool are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Michael Olise from Bayern Munich next summer, with the France international understood to be receptive to a potential move.

IndyKails claims Olise is “very keen” on the prospect of joining Liverpool, whose admiration for the 24-year-old stretches back some time.

Liverpool’s interest comes as head coach Andoni Iraola continues shaping his squad, with the right side of attack an area that could receive further attention. The club considered several options during the summer, including Brighton and Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh, while Yan Diomande eventually joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig.

Liverpool Interest in Michael Olise Remains Strong

Olise would represent a significant investment, particularly given his importance to Bayern Munich.

His productivity explains Liverpool’s interest. Since the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign, Olise has recorded 60 goal contributions in 59 appearances across all competitions.

His previous Premier League experience with Crystal Palace would also provide Liverpool with a player already familiar with English football.

There is an obvious squad consideration too. Iraola has several forwards capable of operating from different positions, although Liverpool currently lack an established elite attacker whose natural starting position is on the right.

Olise would immediately address that requirement if Bayern Munich were prepared to consider a sale.

Florian Wirtz Could Influence Liverpool Plans

Liverpool have already invested heavily in Florian Wirtz, who is expected to remain an important part of their long term attacking structure.

Bringing Olise into the same system would therefore require Iraola to determine how two players comfortable operating in central attacking areas could function alongside each other.

That does not necessarily represent an obstacle. Olise can begin from the right before moving inside, potentially creating space for an attacking full back. Wirtz could also move across different zones behind the centre forward as Liverpool rotate positions during possession.

Such flexibility could provide Iraola with several tactical possibilities, particularly against opponents defending in compact shapes.

Summer Transfer Depends on Bayern Munich

Any Liverpool move for Michael Olise ultimately depends heavily on Bayern Munich’s position.

The Bundesliga club have an elite attacker entering his prime years, producing outstanding numbers and developing into an increasingly influential component of Kompany’s system. Convincing Bayern to negotiate would therefore represent a significant challenge.

Liverpool’s reported interest remains understandable. Olise provides creativity, goals, Premier League experience and the ability to operate from the right, all qualities that would strengthen Iraola’s attacking options.

The more interesting question may eventually concern exactly where Liverpool would use him.

If discussions develop towards a transfer next summer, Iraola would have to construct an attacking structure capable of maximising both Michael Olise and Florian Wirtz. Given Olise’s performances for Bayern Munich, that would probably be a tactical problem Liverpool would happily accept.
