Indeed, Marseille have paid €2.5 million to sign Benjamin Pavard on a season-long loan.

Yet, there is a €16 million purchase option in the deal, which will allow the French club to make the move permanent.

Inter had initially hoped to offload the 29-year-old permanently.

Furthermore, their idea was to recoup a large portion of the €30 million they paid Bayern Munich in 2023.

However, after failing to drum up concrete interest in the versatile French defender, they had to settle for less favorable terms.

The Nerazzurri even failed to include an obligatory buyout clause in the deal, which could backfire next summer.

Indeed, if Pavard fails to meet expectations at Stade Velodrome, he will be Inter’s problem again in 2026.
