Napoli are prepared to listen to offers for Scott McTominay this summer, according to Fichajes, in what could develop into one of the more intriguing Premier League return stories of the window.
The Scotland international has flourished in Serie A since leaving Manchester United in 2024 for around €30 million. What initially felt like a calculated gamble has evolved into a transformative move for both player and club. Now, with Napoli navigating financial pressures, a significant sale is under consideration.

McTominay quickly established himself as an unexpected leader in Naples. During the 24-25 campaign, he played a central role in Napoli’s Serie A triumph, contributing 12 goals and 6 assists from midfield. His late runs into the box, aerial strength and positional intelligence added a different dimension to their play.
This season, despite fluctuating team form, he has already registered 10 goals and 4 assists across competitions. Those numbers underline consistency rather than a fleeting purple patch. He has grown tactically and mentally, operating with authority in high pressure fixtures.
Napoli tied him down to a contract until 2028. At 29, he is in peak condition and arguably at maximum market value.
Fichajes report that Napoli would consider offers in the region of €80 million. Such a fee would almost triple their initial outlay. In the context of financial recalibration and wage management, McTominay’s status as one of the higher earners is a relevant factor.

Italian clubs have become increasingly pragmatic in balancing ambition with sustainability. A sale of this scale would offer flexibility to reinvest across multiple positions.
Manchester United have re-entered the conversation. At Old Trafford, there is belief that McTominay has matured into a more complete midfielder than the one who departed. Experience abroad, enhanced confidence and improved output have reshaped perceptions.
A fee close to €80 million would represent a sizeable commitment. Yet the appeal is clear, a homegrown product returning with leadership credentials and proven scoring threat from midfield.
Much depends on Napoli’s final stance and the player’s willingness. Summer remains some distance away, but the outline of a high profile move is emerging.
McTominay was often viewed as reliable rather than elite during his first spell. His departure felt sensible at the time, particularly given the need to refresh midfield options.
However, his development in Italy demands reassessment. Twelve league goals in a title winning season is not a trivial contribution. Adding double figures again this term reinforces that he has elevated his game. United have lacked consistent goal output from midfield in recent campaigns, especially in tight 1-0 or 2-1 matches where late runs make the difference.
The concern lies in valuation. €80 million is a premium figure for a 29 year old, even one entering his prime. Supporters will question whether that budget could be allocated more strategically across multiple areas of need.
There is also sentiment. McTominay embodied commitment and resilience, traits supporters respect. Bringing him back as a refined, more authoritative presence carries symbolic weight. If United’s hierarchy believe he now offers tactical intelligence and composure under pressure, then a reunion could make sense.
Ultimately, fans want smart recruitment rather than nostalgia. If this is about strengthening the spine with a proven performer, the idea has merit. If it becomes an emotional decision at inflated cost, scepticism will follow.
