Serie A heavyweights Milan have reportedly been offered a chance to sign Liverpool defender Joe Gomez in recent days. According to Matteo Moretto via Calciomercato.it, the player’s representatives have revived talks with the Rossoneri over a potential summer move.
It could be a busy summer for Milan, especially if they secure Champions League qualification, which at this point seems inevitable. Sunday’s 2-1 win at Genoa saw Massimiliano Allegri’s charges steer two points clear of Como and Juventus heading into the final weekend.
Meanwhile, Milan could part ways with Fikayo Tomori in the summer. Furthermore, Strahinja Pavlovic has emerged as a concrete target for Manchester United, with the Red Devils reportedly willing to shell out up to €60 million to lure the Serbian center-back to Old Trafford.
Therefore, Milan may undergo a major defensive overhaul in the coming months. Gomez was on the club’s shortlist in January, but they failed to find an agreement with Liverpool. However, the player’s contract runs out in 2027, which could force the Reds to sanction his sale this summer.
Gomez has played a marginal role in Arne Slot’s tactical setup this term. Indeed, the 28-year-old has amassed just seven Premier League starts, often playing second fiddle to Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.
Still, Gomez’s versatility also allows him to operate as a right-back. That’s something Allegri could use next season, provided he stays at the helm beyond the summer.
With the player falling out of favor at Anfield, Milan could be able to secure his signature on favorable terms. However, it’s debatable whether he would be a suitable replacement for Tomori, let alone Pavlovic.
Nevertheless, there are no ongoing negotiations currently in place. With Gomez unlikely to feature for England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the clubs could step up talks immediately after the end of the season.
