Milan misfit Santiago Gimenez could still join Porto in the final days of the transfer window despite an earlier setback in talks between the clubs. According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Tuttomercatoweb, negotiations have resumed in recent hours, with the Rossoneri eager to offload their unsettled striker.

Gimenez has already agreed personal terms with Porto. Indeed, the Mexican star is desperate to leave San Siro after a complicated 18-month stint in Serie A. Meanwhile, the Dragons have earmarked him as their top target to reinforce Francesco Farioli’s frontline after Rodrigo Mora’s transfer to Roma.

However, Porto’s initial offer fell well short of Milan’s demands. Milan paid Feyenoord north of €30 million to sign Gimenez in January 2025. Needless to say, they are keen to recoup their investment, even though the 25-year-old has flopped in Serie A. That might prove easier said than done.

Our take on Milan, Porto & Gimenez

Ruben Amorim has left Gimenez out of his project, and there’s no point keeping an unhappy striker around when he has already made it clear that he wants to leave. Milan would ideally recoup most of their initial outlay, yet Porto’s reluctance to meet their valuation means a compromise may be necessary.

After deeming the Dragons’ opening bid ‘too low,’ Milan have reportedly shown readiness to let Gimenez leave on favorable terms. In fact, they’re now open to sanctioning his loan move to the Estadio do Dragao with an option to buy. However, Porto would likely have to raise their proposed €15m buyout clause to convince the Rossoneri.
