Ruben Loftus-Cheek could reportedly leave Milan in the upcoming transfer window after falling out of favor with new manager Ruben Amorim. According to Calciomercato, the English midfielder has drawn interest from Fiorentina.
Milan signed Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea in 2023. However, unlike Christian Pulisic, the 30-year-old has struggled with consistency in Serie A. Last season, he made 28 league appearances. Moreover, former manager Massimiliano Allegri handed him just 12 starts.
With only a year remaining on his contract, Loftus-Cheek could be on his way out in the coming months. New boss Amorim has already sidelined the Englishman from his project, with Milan ready to entertain offers for their out-of-favor star.
In stark contrast, they’ll do everything to convince Luka Modric to stay at San Siro for another year. The Croatian veteran bid farewell to the Rossoneri at the end of last season, but the Italian giants are still hoping to change his mind.
Several Premier League clubs have reportedly inquired about Loftus-Cheek, yet there are no ongoing negotiations for his departure. Meanwhile, Fiorentina could hijack the Englishman’s return to his homeland as they bid to bolster their midfield after a dreadful season.
Milan, who spent €16 million to sign Loftus-Cheek, won’t stand in their way. However, they’ll hope to at least partially recoup their investment. Otherwise, they’d have to run the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer. Given the club’s ambitions in the market, that’s a luxury they cannot afford.
Amorim is keen to reshape the squad, and Milan must generate funds through player sales. Therefore, Loftus-Cheek’s sale makes perfect sense.
