Report – Milan to Rekindle Interest in Ligue 1 Midfielder in January | OneFootball

Milan could reportedly reignite their interest in Marseille midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the January transfer window. According to Calciomercato, the Danish star could be available on a cut-price deal amid the French club’s financial turmoil.

Ruben Amorim is a known admirer of Hojbjerg, who swapped Tottenham Hotspur for Marseille in 2024. However, the deep-lying playmaker is already 31 and cannot be considered a long-term addition. Still, he would be a decent mid-season signing for Milan, who lack numbers in the middle of the park.

Amorim was keen to sign Hojbjerg in the summer, but Milan couldn’t convince Marseille to offload one of their best players. Yet, things could change midway through the season, with Les Olympiens likely to be forced to sell a few stars in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Furthermore, Hojbjerg could join Milan for as little as €10 million, though Marseille are more likely to push for a slightly higher figure.

There’s the belief that €15m would do the trick, and with Milan ready to invest again in January, the deal feels more than plausible. However, whether the Rossoneri need a player with Hojbjerg’s characteristics remains debatable.

Although Luka Modric is already 31, the former Ballon d’Or winner remains one constant in midfield. Moreover, Yunus Musah has thrived in Amorim’s system at the start of the season, while Ardon Jashari has fared reasonably well in some matches.

Then, there’s Adrien Rabiot, arguably the best midfielder in the current Milan squad. As such, Hojbjerg’s addition would only make an already crowded department even more congested.
