Report reveals FFP relief gained by Barcelona from Inigo Martinez’s imminent exit | OneFootball

It is unquestionable that Inigo Martinez is a key player for Barcelona. Unfortunately, that is exactly why his potential departure hurts so much. However, not everything related to the exit is bad news for the club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish defender’s exit frees up 60% of his €14 million salary in terms of Financial Fair Play (FFP) relief, and that percentage is due to the club still not being under the 1:1 rule. Thus, it means that the club will essentially free up nearly €8.4 million with his potential exit.

A financial boost for Barcelona

While this amount will not solve everything for the club, it is still a significant financial boost. After all, Barça’s top priority right now is the registration of players in the first team and that issue is already getting delayed.

However, thanks to recent operations, the club has freed up a sizeable amount in terms of Financial Fair Play relief. While it remains to be seen just how much it helps with player registrations, there is hope that it could be the kind of boost that Barça needs.

Unfortunately, this still does not mean that Martinez’s exit would hurt any less. A key player for Hansi Flick, his departure would definitely be a big sporting blow to the coach’s plans and Barça should have dealt with this issue better.

While it is commendable that the club is staying true to their end of a reported agreement made with Martinez, it is still a questionable exit. For now, Barça might just have to rely on other available options to help them next season.
