Much of FC Barcelona’s plans for the upcoming summer transfer window completely depends on how much money they’ll be able to spend in the market to reinforce the squad. They also need to get back to the elusive 1:1 rule.
With names like Alessandro Bastoni and Julian Alvarez being presented as the big priorities, the obvious question is how much room Barca actually believe they will have to move. According to SPORT, Barcelona expect to have around €130 million available to spend in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona believe they won’t pay more than €70m for the Argentinian striker but are aware that Atletico could ask for more. If not Alvarez, they have already identified a potential plan B in Manchester City striker Omar Marmoush.
Meanwhile, with regards to Alessandro Bastoni, Barcelona expect him to be available for €60m. Unlike Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan won’t be selling to a league rival and might be more flexible in negotiations than Diego Simeone’s side.
On one hand, €130 million is a serious amount and suggests the club believe their financial position will be stable enough to attempt meaningful business. On the other hand, it puts pressure on them to get the signings right.
Bastoni alone would likely take up a huge portion of that budget, while Alvarez would almost certainly require an even bigger financial effort if Atletico Madrid were ever willing to discuss a deal. Thus, the club may have to pick and choose.
It remains to be seen how much Barcelona have to spend in the summer and who they eventually go for, in the summer transfer window.
