Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen finds himself in an unusual situation once again.

Although the German goalkeeper knows he is no longer part of Hansi Flick’s plans, he continues training with Barcelona while waiting for the club to give the final approval for his move to Ajax.

Ter Stegen has already agreed to the loan transfer, and both he and his representatives believe every major aspect of the deal has been settled.

The remaining delay is not related to the player’s decision but to the structure of the agreement between the two clubs.

Financial details still being finalised

Indeed, according to SPORT, the final obstacle concerns the financial and tax arrangements surrounding the deal.

Ajax and Barcelona are working to finalize a loan agreement under which the Dutch club will gradually assume a larger share of Ter Stegen’s salary throughout the season.

The amount Ajax pays will increase depending on factors such as the number of matches he plays, his individual performances, and the team’s collective objectives.

Despite the complexity of the arrangement, all parties remain confident that a final agreement will be reached.

Documentation already being exchanged

Barcelona and Ajax are currently exchanging the necessary legal documentation to complete the transaction.

From the outset, Ajax made it clear that they could not immediately absorb Ter Stegen’s full salary but were prepared to make a significant financial effort.

Under the agreed framework, their contribution will rise progressively as the German establishes himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper during the season.

Ter Stegen is now simply waiting for the final authorisation before joining his new teammates.

No concern over the transfer

Reports in the Netherlands have suggested there has been some nervousness within Ajax regarding the delay.

However, sources close to the goalkeeper insist there is no real danger of the move collapsing. All parties have already reached an agreement, and the remaining work is purely legal and administrative, even if the process has taken slightly longer than expected.

The expectation is that everything will be completed this week, allowing Ter Stegen to travel to Amsterdam for a comprehensive medical examination before officially completing the move.

Ajax already possess all of the goalkeeper’s medical reports and are fully satisfied that he is fit to play from the start of the new season.

Barcelona’s plan for the future

Barcelona view the loan as an opportunity to restore Ter Stegen’s market value.

The club hopes the German will play regularly, perform well, and increase his value before next summer, when a permanent transfer, either to Ajax or another club, could finally be completed.

The long-term objective is to remove one of the highest salaries on Barcelona’s wage bill following the goalkeeper’s most recent contract renewal.

For his part, Ter Stegen has cooperated throughout the process to help facilitate the move and is excited by the prospect of becoming part of Michel’s new project in the Netherlands.
