Chelsea Reject Trevoh Chalobah Bid as Como Chase £35m Deal

Chelsea have turned down a third approach from Como for Trevoh Chalobah, with TALKSPORT reporting that the club remain firm on their valuation of the defender. The current asking price stands at “£30million plus £5m”, and there is no indication yet that Chelsea are prepared to soften that stance.

As things stand, Chalobah remains a Chelsea player despite sustained interest from the Serie A side. Como have made him a major target, and their pursuit has been driven in part by head coach Cesc Fabregas, who knows the player and the club well from his time in west London. In June, Como tabled an offer “worth more than £22m for Chalobah”, but that was rejected, and a third bid has now met the same fate.

Chalobah Transfer Stance Remains Clear

The situation is straightforward. Chelsea are open to a sale, but only on their terms. That creates a familiar dynamic in the market, where interest is genuine, talks are active, but movement depends entirely on whether the buying club will meet the valuation. For now, Chelsea “refuse to budge on £35m price tag”, which leaves Como with a decision to make if they want to push this any further.

There is logic to Chelsea’s position. Chalobah is 27, under contract for another two years, and his deal includes the option of a further 12 months. He is not a distressed asset, and there is no pressure to accept a discounted fee. More importantly, he comes off the back of a season in which he was “one of the club’s most consistent performers in a tough 2025/26 campaign.” That matters in any negotiation.

Chalobah made 47 appearances in all competitions last season, his highest total in a single campaign for Chelsea, and added two goals. He also earned a late England World Cup call-up and made his tournament debut in the “crazy 6-4 third-place play-off win over France.” Those details strengthen Chelsea’s hand, even if the wider expectation is that a departure may still happen.

Maxence Lacroix Move Shapes Chelsea Decision

The key backdrop here is Chelsea’s defensive planning. The club are closing in on Maxence Lacroix, with the Crystal Palace defender “expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge in a deal worth north of £55m.” If that transfer is completed, Chalobah’s place in the squad becomes even more uncertain.

The report suggests Chalobah “does not appear part of new boss Xabi Alonso’s plans”, and that is central to the story. Chelsea may value him highly, but valuation and role are two different things. A club can rate a player, respect his contributions, and still decide that a sale is the right move when the market aligns.

Como and Fabregas Push for Chelsea Reunion

From Como’s side, the attraction is obvious. They are preparing for “their first-ever Champions League campaign” after a superb fourth-place finish in Serie A under Fabregas. Chalobah offers top-level experience, strong recent form, and the profile of a player capable of stepping into a side making a major leap.

There is also a personal connection. Fabregas and Chalobah previously shared a dressing room at Chelsea, even if they never played together at Stamford Bridge. Como have already shown a willingness to lean on former Chelsea ties, with Alvaro Morata joining permanently after his loan spell. Fabregas clearly sees Chalobah as another piece capable of raising the level.

From a Chelsea supporter perspective, this report feels entirely believable and, if anything, fairly predictable. Chalobah has long given the impression of being valued differently by fans than by the club’s decision-makers. When you read that he was “one of the club’s most consistent performers in a tough 2025/26 campaign”, that simply confirms what many supporters already saw every week.

There is always frustration when an academy product who has delivered, stayed patient, and performed reliably still seems available for the right price. Chalobah has done the hard part. He has come through Cobham, handled loans, returned, and produced his best season with 47 appearances. Supporters tend to look at that and ask a simple question, why are Chelsea still so ready to move him on?

At the same time, being unsurprised is different from being pleased. If Chelsea are signing Lacroix for a fee “worth north of £55m”, then keeping the door open for Chalobah to leave fits the pattern of recent squad building. It suggests the club are prioritising a different profile, even if the existing option has proved dependable.

If Como really want him, they should probably stop testing the waters and meet the valuation. From a Chelsea point of view, £35m for an established, homegrown defender with strong recent form is hardly excessive in this market. The disappointment for many fans is not the fee, it is the possibility that a player like Chalobah still appears easier to sell than to fully trust.
