West Ham Re-Sign Fabianski to Bolster Goalkeeping Options

West Ham have confirmed the re-signing of veteran goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski on a free transfer, as the club looks to stabilise a position that has become a cause for concern in recent weeks.

Fabianski Returns to London Stadium

Fabianski, who made 215 appearances for West Ham during a seven-year spell before departing in the summer, has made a surprise return. The Hammers moved swiftly to bring him back following the departure of Wes Foderingham, who joined Aris Limassol on a permanent deal.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Fabianski said: “I’m really, really, really happy to be back because this Club obviously means a lot for me and the people at this Club as well. Seeing them again, it felt nice and beautiful. I’ve always been, and I will be for sure, a player who is always putting the team above my personal goals. I think then maybe people see me as a good person to be around, a good person to have in the team in terms of what I bring and so it’s not only about me, it’s about the team. I’m here to support, to keep the standards high. I have huge experience as well, so I think it can be useful.”

Cover for Areola and Hermansen

The 40-year-old will provide experienced cover for Alphonse Areola and Mads Hermansen, with West Ham currently seeking stability between the posts. Hermansen, signed for £20 million from Leicester, endured a torrid start, conceding eight goals in his first two games. He was dropped after a poor showing against Chelsea but responded with a clean sheet in a crucial 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Goalkeeper Competition Intensifies

Areola has also struggled, particularly in the Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves, and Fabianski’s arrival could help raise standards in training. Manager Graham Potter now has three senior goalkeepers to choose from, giving him flexibility ahead of a demanding fixture schedule.

Experience and Leadership Key

Fabianski, a former Hammer of the Year, is widely respected at the club and his presence is expected to bring calm to a squad looking for confidence. His understanding of West Ham’s culture and his professionalism may prove vital as the team aims to turn around early-season inconsistencies.
