The 31-year-old played the first game of this season for his country last month in a 3-0 win over Gibraltar before making two substitute appearances for Manchester City.

However, according to journalist Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail, Kovacic will have surgery on his Achilles once again and will not be back until February or March of 2026.

The news comes as concern for his club, who may look at midfield reinforcements in January, and his country who will be hoping he can return and be fit for the World Cup in summer.
