DeichStube reports an air of discontent around Werder Bremen, with head coach Horst Steffen increasingly under scrutiny.

Their wait for a first win since early November continued with a 3-0 defeat in Dortmund, despite encouraging spells. The winless sequence is said to be among the factors fuelling tensions.

The report says tempers have been simmering in recent days, with the internal situation described as seriously awry and Steffen’s work being questioned. The omission of 32-year-old midfielder Leonardo Bittencourt against his former club BVB also caused a stir, while departing Skelly Alvero was named on the bench.

It adds that Bittencourt is not alone, with other players dissatisfied with their current standing under Steffen for some time.

At a press conference this morning, the 56-year-old rejected suggestions of unrest. He said the mood after six games without a win is annoying and not good, that he disagrees with some reports, and that he sees the team daily and believes the dressing-room and training-ground atmosphere is good.

Steffen will hope to shift the narrative on Friday night, when Bremen host Eintracht Frankfurt at 20:30 CET.
