Manchester City have sent representatives to monitor a specific player who is believed to be growing in interest to the Etihad Stadium, according to new reports.

The latest development comes as part of the club’s continued focus on long-term succession planning within Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, particularly in the holding midfield role currently occupied predominantly by Rodri.

With sporting director Hugo Viana now leading a post-transfer window evaluation period, attention has turned toward emerging European talents who fit the technical and tactical demands of Manchester City’s system.

Interest in Bayern Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović has already been established in previous reports, with Pep Guardiola and his recruitment team claimed to be admirers of the 21-year-old’s composure, positional discipline, and passing range.

Pavlović’s ability to dictate tempo in deep areas has seen him compared to Rodri by some observers and news reports, perhaps making him an appealing option for a side preparing for eventual transition in that part of the pitch.

Now, according to the information of TBR Football, representatives of Manchester City were in attendance to watch Germany’s victory over Northern Ireland in a FIFA World Cup qualifier at Windsor Park this week.

It is claimed that officials from the Etihad Stadium were present to watch highly-rated defensive midfield star Aleksandar Pavlovic of Bayern Munich, who is said to have stood out in his role on Monday night.

Also in attendance at Windsor Park were Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, with the 21-year-old attracting an ‘increasing level of interest’ from the English top-flight, where there is also said to be admiration for Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi and Nico Schlotterbeck.

This latest scouting mission aligns closely with City’s recent activity, having sent officials to track young Bundesliga talent throughout 2024 and 2025, prioritising players with proven tactical intelligence and adaptability.

While Bayern Munich are unlikely to entertain offers in the near future, Pavlović’s contract – running until 2029 – could make any potential deal financially challenging for interested clubs.

However, Manchester City’s approach to recruitment has often focused on long-term strategy rather than immediate gain, and Pavlović may be seen as a player who could develop into a key figure over time, should the opportunity to sign him arise.

Looking ahead, City are likely to continue closely monitoring the midfielder’s progress with both club and country across the 2025/26 season. Much will depend on Rodri’s own situation, as the Spaniard looks to build up his own fitness and consistency on the field.
