AC Milan continue to disappoint in Serie A and the media this morning are questioning how long things can keep going as they are.
This morning’s edition of La Reppublica (via MilanNews) describes Paulo Fonseca’s short spell at Milan so far as ‘a love story that never blossomed’. The Portuguese coach is ‘on the brink of a personal abyss’, because in the media he continues to get angry with players and them absolve them.
In short, instead of looking for a solution to all this, Fonseca does nothing but add fuel to the fire with his words which actually only mean that he is continuing to hurt himself, at least until there is some consistency in results.
Milan head to Verona on Friday and the situation is ‘in a perfect middle ground between desperate and serious’. If the management were to decide to sack Fonseca, he would in theory be owed the full salary of his three-year contract, unless there was a termination agreement.

However, the paper reiterate that in their eyes the marriage between Milan and Fonseca is one ‘without passion or a future’. He was never the first choice for the club, he divided the fan base, the players were unsure of his arrival and other names like Antonio Conte went elsewhere.
The former Lille boss has clashed with certain players, has not been able to fully convey his style of play yet (as Rafael Leao admitted) and the easiest figure to sack amid a climate of protest is always the head coach.
