Manchester City burned off competition from Manchester United for Partizan Belgrade winger Filip Stevanovic.

The 18-year-old's move from Serbia was confirmed on Saturday, with him set to join his new team at the start of the January transfer window.

Stevanovic's transfer was announced on social media by his current team, just before City's game vs Sheffield United kicked off.

In a post on Saturday afternoon, they said: “FC Partizan is pleased to announce the transfer of Filip Stevanović to @ManCity in the winter transfer window in 2021

"The transfer of Filip Stevanović to one of the largest European clubs is a significant confirmation of the good and hard work of all club structures."

Stevanovic played against United twice last season in the Europa league, appearing as a late substitute in both fixtures, reports the Mirror.

Reports from Serbia had claimed that Solskjaer's men had agreed a deal to sign Stevanovic in August, with plans to loan him back to his boyhood club for this campaign.

Just three months after those reports, his move to Manchester has been confirmed, albeit to United's rivals.
