Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi has been voted the Buccaneers’ player of the month for August by the club’s supporters.

The highly rated center-back fended strong competition from Patrick Maswanganyi, Oswin Appollis, Lebone Seema, Sipho Chaine and Kamogelo Sebelebele.

Mbokazi, who has assumed the captain’s armband from newly appointed skipper Nkosinathi Sibisi, who’s sidelined due to a knee injury, has been a vital cog at the heart of defense.

He has featured in all eight competitive matches so far this season, earning a spot in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Mbokazi helped the South African national team to secure a 3-0 victory over Lesotho on Friday and will be determined to retain his place when Bafana face Nigeria on Tuesday.
