The takeover might not be rubber-stamped just yet, but Andrew Cavenagh isn’t hanging about. The American health mogul at the heart of the incoming ownership has now personally met with managerial frontrunner Davide Ancelotti – and that development says it all about where the power now lies at Ibrox.

With the silence from Ibrox growing louder by the day, Rangers fans have been crying out for clarity – and it seems like we’re finally starting to get it. Cavenagh’s meeting with Ancelotti underlines that the new owners won’t be passengers when it comes to footballing decisions. They’re very much in the driving seat already.

Ancelotti, meanwhile, has made no secret of his ambition to strike out on his own. After years working alongside his father Carlo at some of Europe’s biggest clubs, he’s ready for a new challenge – and Ibrox could be the perfect fit. According to reports, the Italian has already spoken to key Rangers figures, laying out a bold and detailed vision for the future. There’s even talk he’s sounded out Luka Modric about a sensational move to Govan, which would be a seismic statement of intent.

But don’t let the glamour of it all distract from the reality – the Rangers takeover doesn’t actually mean much if it doesn’t result in smart, sustainable planning. Financial Fair Play still exists, and a flashy name in the dugout won’t matter if the foundations aren’t solid. Cavenagh appears to understand that, and his hands-on approach so far is at least encouraging.

There’s also strong indication that this new regime is eager to make a quick impact. With sources claiming a takeover announcement is due within seven days, the managerial appointment is set to be the first major decision of the Cavenagh era. And make no mistake – they’ll want it to be the right one.

If you need any more confirmation of how close this deal is, look no further than this update, which reveals that Dave King himself believes the takeover has a “90% probability” of completion. In other words – it’s happening.

The question now is whether Davide Ancelotti will be the man to lead the charge. All signs suggest he might just be.
