Inter midfielder Barella is set to go under the knife today.

The Italian international will undergo an operation on his nasal septum.

This is not to heal any sporting injury for Barella. Rather, the purpose of the surgery will be to allow the 27-year-old to breathe more comfortably.

The procedure is a relatively non-invasive one. Therefore, the recovery period will certainly not be a long one.

According to the Gazzetta, Barella should be able to be discharged from the hospital by the end of today already after the operation is completed.

Nicolo Barella To Return To Training For Inter Next Week

Barella’s operation means that he will not be part of the Italy squad during the international break.

Ordinarily, Azzurri coach Luciano Spalletti would have certainly called the former Cagliari midfielder up.

But Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have the key midfielder at his disposal in training. And he will not mind Barella getting a bit of extra rest.

However, Barella can not return to training right away with the rest of his teammates not on international duty during the break.

The 27-year-old will have to heal from the surgery and avoid training that would risk contact which would cause complications after the procedure.

Therefore, the Gazzetta reports, for the next few days, Barella will train individually.

The Italian international will work to keep his physical condition up despite not being in group training.

That means Barella will not be part of the Inter squad that assembles in training on Thursday.

But early next week, the Gazzetta anticipates, Barella will rejoin the Inter squad in training.
