A new report has outlined when Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will make a firm decision on his future at the club.
The rumour mill has not stopped running over the Catalan’s future at Manchester City of late, with Guardiola into the final 18 months of his current deal and while he has maintained he is not thinking of leaving anytime soon, certain sections of the English media have been told otherwise.
A flurry of reports from traditionally reliable quarters of the English press have relayed a growing belief among Premier League circles that Guardiola could very well call it a day at Manchester City at the end of the current season.
City are in an embryonic stage of their rebuild under director of football Hugo Viana and having bolstered their squad with the additions of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi in January, the Blues are fighting for silverware on four fronts in the second half of the season.
The Blues have struggled for consistency on the pitch of late, having managed just one win in their last six Premier League games to allow Arsenal to establish a nine point lead at the top of the table ahead of Sunday’s monumental battle between Liverpool and City at Anfield.
City must win in Merseyside to keep up the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s men and after returning to winning ways against Newcastle in midweek and sealing a place in the Carabao Cup final, there is no better time to turn the ship around and put a winning run together for Guardiola and co.
It has been reported recently that a decision on Guardiola’s future at Manchester City and whether the Catalan will honour the final year of his current deal will likely be made at the end of the season – or even after the season ends.
Viana and Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak will work together to recruit an eventual successor for Guardiola, with club bosses understood to have formed a three-man shortlist in the early stages of their search for a replacement.
Guardiola reiterated that he is not eyeing an exit at the end of the season when previewing Sunday’s visit to Anfield in a press conference on Friday – amid a growing belief at the Etihad Stadium that the 55-year-old is unlikely to renew his contract beyond 2027.
Now, according to the information of Mirror Sport’s Jeremy Cross, Guardiola will make a decision in the upcoming summer about whether to remain at Manchester City until June 2027.
The report further quotes club sources, who insist that chairman Al Mubarak is comfortable with both the present and future, keen to draw on the confidence of knowing the club was successful before Guardiola – and that long-term strategies and infrastructures were all in place before the arrival of the Catalan.
Guardiola will be insisting that his players ignore the cloud of doubt hanging over the Manchester City head coach’s future and focus on matters on the pitch, with the jury out on whether the Blues have enough fuel in the tank to contest for silverware in the closing stages of the season – following a poor start to 2026.
