Besiktas’ move for Mohamed Salah has stalled over commercial and commission demands, with talks paused. The Istanbul club are now assessing alternatives, including AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.

According to Football Italia, Besiktas have opened talks with Milan about the Portugal winger.

Salah became a free agent on 30 June after his Liverpool deal expired, and Besiktas were ready to offer about €12.5m per year. Disputes over shirt-sales revenue and the fee sought by his agent have held things up.

Sporting director Onder Ozen said they had contacted Salah and built a financing model, but the mood shifted as the new-season deadline neared. He added that from 21 July new requests drove the process into a dead end.

Ozen stressed Besiktas would not exceed legal commission limits or their financial framework, and said the president has temporarily stepped away from talks.

Any move for Leao would be far costlier than a free signing. Milan are not entertaining loans, only a cash sale, with the fee estimated at €50m to €60m.

Leao is said to want at least eight million euros a season plus bonuses and will not consider the Turkish Super Lig unless that is met. Besiktas remain keen, though Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have also been linked with the 27-year-old.
