Richarlison scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner as 10-man Tottenham Hotspur edged Chelsea 2-1 in Sydney to maintain their perfect pre-season record under Roberto De Zerbi.

The Brazilian striker tapped home in the second minute of added time after Jamie Donley’s effort rebounded off the post, sealing Spurs’ fourth victory in as many summer friendlies despite playing more than 40 minutes with a man down.

Tottenham had taken the lead in the 17th minute through Sandro Tonali, who opened his account for the club following his £100 million move from Newcastle United. The midfielder’s strike took a deflection on its way into the net, but Chelsea responded almost immediately as Estevao headed home to restore parity four minutes later.

The match swung again shortly after half-time when Kevin Danso, introduced at the interval, was shown a straight red card just four minutes after coming on for hauling down Joao Pedro as the Chelsea forward raced through on goal.

Xabi Alonso’s side dominated possession against 10 men but struggled to turn their numerical advantage into clear-cut opportunities. Antonin Kinsky proved the difference in the Tottenham goal, producing fine saves to deny both Joao Pedro and Estevao as Chelsea searched for a winner.

Spurs, meanwhile, defended resolutely before striking on the counter late in the contest. Rio Kyerematen had already rattled the crossbar before Richarlison settled the match, reacting quickest after Donley’s shot struck the upright to bundle home from close range.

The result continues an encouraging start to pre-season for De Zerbi, with new signings Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke both impressing as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run this summer.

Chelsea, meanwhile, were left to rue missed opportunities after failing to make their extra man count, despite finishing with the same number of shots on target as Spurs.

Tottenham continue their preparations with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Getafe next week, while Chelsea will look to bounce back as their pre-season tour continues.
