Right wing options Newcastle United should consider recruiting this summer | OneFootball

Hello everyone, I am the one who still claims to be one of the biggest Newcastle United fans in Indonesia (a country in South East Asia, FYI).

This is my fifth article on The Mag, if I am not mistaken.

I am making a writing return, as my last article was over three years ago now.

As we all know, Newcastle United has one foot already set in the Champions League next season.

We must get a minimum of three points in the remaining two matches, to be as a minimum in the top five of the Premier League this season and qualify for the top European competition.

Of course, we need to enter the transfer market in the summer to strengthen and complete the current squad so that we can compete on the four fronts that we will participate in next season – Premier League, Europe (hopefully Champions League), FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The minimum aim of the Newcastle United owners for the Premier League next season will be top four, to be in the Champions League zone. We certainly hope that Newcastle will also be able to have a good go at defending the Carabao Cup title that we have won this season.

Personally, I also really hope that we can challenge for the FA Cup.

As for the Champions League, the hope and expectation is that we can at least qualify from the league stage.

In addition, it is fundamental for Newcastle United to rejuvenate the average age of players in the squad.

Based on data from transfermarkt.com, this season Newcastle United is ranked 17th out of 20 clubs in the Premier League with an average squad age of 28.8 years.

I think that in particular, three areas of the Newcastle United squad need to be strengthened. Goalkeeper (Nick Pope turns 34 years old next season), Right Central Defender (currently occupied by Fabian Schar who will be 34 years old by the end of this year), and Right Winger (Jacob Murphy will turn 31 years old during next season).

In this article, I will particularly highlight the right wing position. This is because in Newcastle’s squad this season, we do not have a natural right winger other than Jacob Murphy (Will Osula’s natural position is a striker), so a new right winger is crucially expected to arrive for next season’s competitions.

So far, I have only read news about how Newcastle United is interested in getting either Bryan Mbuemo (Cameroon, Brentford, 25 years old) or Johan Bakayoko (Belgium, PSV Eindhoven, 22 years old) to strengthen the right wing position. Both are indeed quality players, but both are also in demand by other big clubs, so they have high market value.

We still need to strengthen at least two other key positions next season, as well as no doubt other necessary additions, all of this having to be done to a backdrop of PSR limits on how much the club can lose over any three season period.

Therefore, I try to provide information about a number of other right wingers (who are also left-footed) who are less familiar compared to Bryan Mbuemo and Johan Bakayoko, are still of productive age, have a market value that is not too high compared to the two named above, but have enough experience and have the quality to possibly strengthen Newcastle’s squad next season.

Achievable Transfers

1. Edon Zhegrova Age : 26 Years Old Nationality : Kosovo Club : LOSC Lille Contract Expiration : Jun 30, 2026 I personally don’t understand why no big clubs have tried to get Zhegrova before. This player has above average speed and dribbling skills. With a height of 1.8 m, I think Edon Zhegrova has the physical ability to play in the Premier League so he won’t be like Remi Cabella or Florian Thauvin. His contract will expire at the end of next season so Lille shouldn’t be pricing Zhegrova at a high price. He is currently nursing a muscle injury and is expected to return before the end of this season.

2. Rayan Cherki (pictured above at the top of this article) Age : 21 Years Old Nationality : France Club : Olympique Lyon Contract Expiration : Jun 30, 2027 Rayan Cherki is a dynamic and technically gifted winger and playmaker who can control the game in the final third of the pitch. He is both-footed and has excellent technical ability. He is tailor-made for players who value talent, creativity and versatility. His ability to score goals and assists, combined with his smooth dribbling and unpredictable play, makes him a game changer.

3. Viktor Tsygankov Age : 27 Years Old Nationality : Ukraine Club : Girona FC Contract Expiration : Jun 30, 2027 Tsygankov is Savinho’s partner-in-crime at Girona in the 2023-2024 season. If Savinho tore apart the opponent’s defense from the left wing, Tsygankov did it from the right side. However, with the arrival of Yaser Asprilla and his increasingly mature performance, Girona will likely be more open to the idea of selling Tsygankov at the end of this season.

4. Dilane Bakwa Age : 22 Years Old Nationality : France Club : RC Strasbourg Contract Expiration : Jun 30, 2027 Dilane Bakwa’s most defining characteristics revolve around his flair, confidence, and ability to beat defenders through one-on-one situations. Bakwa is a winger who likes to confront his opponent directly. Rumor has it, Chelsea is interested in getting Bakwa next season.

5. Issahaku Fatawu Age : 21 Years Old Nationality : Ghana Club : Leicester City Contract Expiration : Jun 30, 2029 Fatawu is a direct winger who is blessed with blistering pace and trickery. In the match against Manchester United at the start of this season, Fatawu completed 12 dribbles when positioned as left winger. With Leicester being relegated to the EFL Championship next season, it is very likely that Leicester will be willing to let Fatawu go at a low price. At the moment he is currently nursing cruciate ligament injury and is expected to return in early August.

6. Samuel Chukwueze Age : 25 Years Old Nationality : Nigeria Club : AC Milan Contract Expiration : Jun 30, 2028 Chukwueze is known for his blistering pace and his ability to use it effectively by drifting infield and peeling away. He is explosive and has good ball control. It was rumored in January that intermediaries have reportedly offered Newcastle the chance to sign Samuel Chukwueze amid his struggles at AC Milan.
