Antwerp’s hopes of bringing Rik De Mil in as their new head coach took a major blow on Friday. The side had been hoping that De Mil would lead them for the 2025/2026 Pro League campaign, but he has instead signed a new deal with Charleroi until 2027. De Mil led Charleroi to a European ticket after beating Antwerp in the final game of the season, which was a one off play-off game for the Conference League qualifiers.

De Mil has been a target for many clubs given how well he has done at both Charleroi and Westerlo in recent years. After the side finished in the bottom four last season, De Mil has, with little budget, steered them back into play-off two and a finishing position of 7th.

As well as keeping De Mil for next season at least, the side also announced the signing of young striker Jakob Napoleon Romsaas.

For Antwerp, they will now have to go and find a new target. De Mil was their clear first choice for the role and it will be a major blow to the club for next season.
