Rio de Janeiro’s civil court has ordered Flamengo to provide, within 15 days, documents and financial data on Maracanã advertising revenues for 2023 to 2025, after a claim by Futuro Eventos, which says it partners on the stadium’s LED panels and alleges unpaid revenue sharing.

According to Globo.com, the case in the 3rd Civil Court of the Capital saw judge Maria Cristina Barros Gutierrez Slaibi recognise a contractual link requiring the club to account, ordering delivery of contracts, amounts raised and proof of transfers. The court rejected Flamengo’s preliminary objections and refused to add Fluminense as a defendant.

Once the papers are filed, the case moves to scrutiny of the accounts and any audit of the sums. If the club misses the deadline, it could suffer procedural setbacks, including losing the right to challenge figures later.

The contracts state that when Flamengo handled sales, Futuro would receive 40% upon accounting. Represented by lawyer José Antonio Carim, the company says it has received no accounts, advertiser contracts, sums, invoices or transfers since 2019. Flamengo previously argued the contracts were confidential and cited an alleged debt to retain Futuro’s equipment.

At this stage, the court examined only the duty to render accounts, not the financial merits. The ruling was published on Wednesday in the Diário da Justiça Eletrônico do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Flamengo said it was not yet aware of the determination.
