Rio Ferdinand hails £35m Youri Tielemans as a “ridiculous bargain” for Man United | OneFootball

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United have secured a ridiculous bargain after signing Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

Manchester United havesigned Tielemans from Aston Villa for a £35m fee after activating the midfielder's release clause at Villa Park.

The Belgium international has arrived at Old Trafford to bolster the club's midfield, which has been depleted by Casemiro's exit and Manuel Ugarte's long-term injury.

Ferdinand believes Tielemans' experience and price tag makes him one of the signings of the summer transfer window.

“I think with Ugarte getting a big, long injury that he's got, and Casemiro leaving, the impact that he was having in terms of goals, definitely, and experience, you needed to kind of go in with a signing that you go: ‘I can see someone taking on that mantle.’

"Maybe in a different way, I think Youri Tielemans, captain of Kevin De Bruyne's Belgium team, [is that]. Thibaut Courtois is there as well. There’s big players there and he's captain of that team," Ferdinand said tomanutd.com.

“So he's the right type, and from what I hear when people speak about him, Jonny Evans played with him at Leicester for four years and said he’s the consummate pro, great professional. So, I think we've got somebody who's made of the right stuff,Premier League ready and, as important as all of that, can play football.

“For 35 million pounds, it's a ridiculous bargain. So, I thought that was a great bit of business done without any noise in the media."

Ferdinand also discussed the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea. The Brazilian struggled for minutes at Chelsea last season, but Ferdinand believes he will soon prove his worth in Manchester.

“I think Santos will grow into a player that people will go: ‘How did we get him out of Chelsea?’ I think he's gonna have an important role to play over the next few years. Even the bits I've seen of him so far in pre-season, he just looks comfortable and just calm, and it's two, I think, very sensible, good signings.”
