Rio Ngumoha has a “big future” ahead of him at Liverpool after the teenager stole the show against Fulham on Saturday evening.
Andy Robertson was full of praise for the winger after he scored a stunning goal on just his second Premier League start for the Reds, cutting inside before unleashing a brilliant strike into the far-right corner of the net.
The 17-year-old was involved in Liverpool’s second goal of the day, switching the play at the edge of the box before the ball eventually arrived at the feet of Mo Salah, who scored with an immaculate first-touch finish.
“He was unbelievable,” Robertson told Sky Sports after the final whistle. “It shows that sometimes don’t listen to the experienced players. I’m screaming, coming on the overlap and he goes and cuts inside.
“Great finish and great performance. He just keeps learning and listening; he’s such a great kid. Him and Trey [Nyoni] are a pleasure to work with. You can see them improving all the time.
“He has a big future but the here and now is pretty good as well.”
Ngumoha, who is now the third-youngest player to start and score in a Premier League match, will now be pushing for a place in the lineup against PSG on Tuesday night after helping Liverpool end a three-match losing streak.
“Coming back to Anfield and getting three points, it’s a great feeling,” he said. “The atmosphere was great again. Positive!”
On his finish, Ngumoha added: “Special goal. Robbo made the overlap and created space and I cut inside. Aimed for the corner!
“Liverpool, for me, is the biggest club in the world. To start so young and the manager to have belief in me, it’s great. I’ve just got to keep working hard.”
