Enrique Riquelme has unveiled his proposed board as he bids to challenge Florentino Pérez in Real Madrid’s first elections in two decades.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he entered the race on Saturday after securing a 193 million euros guarantee from Andbank España, equal to 15% of the budget. Around 24 hours later the Electoral Board validated his paperwork, clearing a vote in the coming weeks.
Riquelme said the bid is not against anyone but for Real Madrid, and outlined an exciting, serious and professional project across sporting and social areas.
The 37-year-old fronts a slate of 12 drawn from business, finance, law and management. Profiles span hotels, automotive, luxury and media, plus lawyers, an economist, a doctor and a property registrar.
His proposed vice-president is Antonio Medina Cuadros, a lawyer and former Real Madrid board member who also worked at the club’s foundation. Entrepreneur Rosauro Varo, an investor in Cabify and Telefónica, is also on the list.
Others named include Ángel Martín Hernández of Clínica Menorca, Juan Luis Mendoza Solano, son of former president Ramón Mendoza, and secretary nominee Francisco Gaspar Riquelme Rubira. José Olivé Pina, Raúl Rodríguez González and Daniel Nicolás Miras are among further candidates.
Notably absent is Iberdrola executive David Mesonero, a friend of Riquelme who had been linked to the project.
The Electoral Board will start the campaign this week and set an election date, expected in about 15 days, with Sunday 7 June 2026 among the options.
