Juan Román Riquelme says Boca are optimistic about expanding La Bombonera, days after a plan to lift capacity from 57,000 to 84,000 was confirmed. According to SuperDepor.com, he believes the project will turn out well.

He thanked Ferrosur for agreeing to the scheme to extend a stand over its railway land and for not creating obstacles around building 18 lifts on its tracks. Riquelme said the remodel should resemble a European-style stadium.

He ruled out the Slovenian proposal and the Bombonera 360 concept, noting that neighbouring homes cannot be touched. He added this is the first time he feels close to fulfilling his pledge to expand the ground, and he wants the club site to be the most attractive in South America.

Riquelme stressed the plan still requires approval from the Comisión Nacional de Regulación del Transporte, which must evaluate the distance to the railway, potential risks, the impact on train circulation and compliance with the railway safety zone.

He also criticised the opposition, saying he does not expect them to return and accusing them of leaving the stadium neglected at the end of their tenure. He urged them to stop creating hurdles and argued that if there were anything against him he would already be serving a life sentence.
