Fluminense and Vasco are fierce rivals, yet their training bases sit virtually next door in Rio.

According to Globo.com, CT Carlos Castilho, of Fluminense, and CT Moacyr Barbosa, of Vasco, sit in Jacarepaguá only 650 metres apart, essentially split by a single street.

The closeness has produced unusual moments. Once, Fluminense players had to pass a protest by a Vasco organised supporters' group at the gate, and were allowed through amid taunts and jokes.

The proximity was no accident. The city government granted land for both clubs to build their bases. Botafogo also received a plot, failed to start work within the deadline and lost the right to use it.

Fluminense moved first, starting work in 2015 and inaugurating the site in July 2016 before completion. The squad began using the complex that October while construction continued.

Since then the football operations have been fully built out, though the lodging wing remains unfinished. In late 2025 the current board launched a project to refurbish, expand and complete the centre.

The club also plans to buy neighbouring plots to add pitches and move older academy sides there, easing the step up to the first team.

Vasco advanced their build in 2019 after raising R$ six million via fan crowdfunding. The site opened in September 2020 with works still ongoing. In 2025 landscaping and a wet area, with hot tubs and a pool, were completed to aid player recovery.
