River Plate have submitted a formal offer to sign Gianluca Prestianni this window, according to Glorioso 1904. The Argentine club are said to have bid six million euros for 50 per cent of the forward’s economic rights, with the proposal now on Benfica’s desk.

Benfica’s response will determine whether talks progress. Prestianni has not hidden his wish to play for the Buenos Aires giants and would view the switch positively. The call sits with president Rui Costa and the board.

José Mourinho has used the forward in recent weeks, but without notable output. Despite opportunities, Prestianni has yet to fully establish himself. That inconsistency could factor into the club’s decision on a sale.

Benfica remain in the market for a winger irrespective of River’s bid. With André Luiz and Wesley out of the equation and the departure of Andreas Schjelderup, the need for a wide player is pressing. Any sale would demand extra work to source alternatives.

This season Prestianni, valued at 12 million euros, has made 21 appearances for Benfica. They include 13 in Liga Portugal Betclic, four in the Champions League, one in the Supertaça, one in the Taça de Portugal and two in the Taça da Liga. Across 747 minutes he has scored two goals and registered one assist.
