D Sports reports that River Plate are preparing another move for Gianluca Prestianni, although Benfica have not received a formal offer.
The Buenos Aires club are keeping close watch on the winger, but Benfica’s board has yet to see any official paperwork. Earlier suggestions of a €6m bid for 50% of his economic rights have not materialised and remain, for now, at the intention stage.
It is unclear how Benfica would respond if such a proposal were to arrive. José Mourinho has used Prestianni regularly in recent weeks, and the 18-year-old started the 1-0 defeat to Porto in the Taça de Portugal.
The player has not hidden a desire to play for River Plate, though increased minutes in Lisbon could shift the picture. The coach’s trust may weigh on his immediate decision.
This season for Benfica, Prestianni, valued at €12m, has made 22 appearances, 13 in Liga Portugal Betclic, four in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. He has played 821 minutes, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
