Riyad Mahrez has retired from international football after Algeria were beaten 0-2 by Switzerland in the World Cup round of 32.

"It was a game within our reach. We conceded two goals from mistakes, at this level you pay for that. We did not disgrace ourselves, but we concede too many goals to hope for anything. Last appearance with the national team. It was my last match." He told beIN Sports.

The Al-Ahli winger, 35, ends as Algeria’s second most-capped player with 119 appearances, behind Aïssa Mandi on 122, and their second top scorer with 40 goals to Islam Slimani’s 46.

With Algeria he won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, the country’s second title after 1990.

This was his second World Cup, following 2014, the year he made his international debut.
