Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Rob Edwards as Vítor Pereira's successor with the 42-year-old joining from Middlesbrough.

Edwards has signed a three-and-a-half year deal and faces the daunting task turning around Wolves' season with the Molineux outfit sitting rock bottom of the Premier League with just two points from their opening 11 games.

"I know Rob very well and I have seen his growth in different jobs," Wolves executive Jeff Shi said about the appointment.

"He’s a very good person, he knows the club very well, he knows the city, the fans and he is very talented. When he was a youth coach here, he showed his tactical awareness, but after he took first-team jobs he started to grow his own identity, character and leadership.

"We need to refresh the whole club with a new coach’s philosophy, bringing his own identity and ideas, and we can build on that. We are at a new chapter for the club and Rob will be a key piece of that."

Edwards is of course a former Wolves player and has previously served as interim manager for the club and worked with the club's academy.

The former Luton Town manager began the season in charge of Middlesbrough with the club second in the table before Wanderers came calling.

Wolves will be hoping they can get the new-manager bounce when Premier League returns following the international break when Wolves host Crystal Palace in Edward's first game as manager.
