Rob Edwards says Matt Doherty’s limited Wolves minutes are due to ongoing pain from an old knee injury.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the defender has featured only twice in 2026, playing 90 minutes against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup and 45 against Chelsea before a half-time withdrawal earlier this month.

Before those outings, he started and completed the match as Wolves earned a point at Old Trafford, operating at the heart of a back three.

The Irishman has 13 appearances this season. He missed six weeks earlier in the campaign with a knee problem and Edwards says he is still feeling its effects.

"Doherty's an interesting one, he's still been feeling a bit of pain, so he's been going through it for us as well and making sure that he's been available," Edwards said when asked about the defender's lack of minutes.
