Midfielder Robert Andrich is reportedly the latest in a long line of actors considering leaving Bayer Leverkusen. With it looking likely that the defending Bundesliga champions will lose head coach Xabi Alonso and star player Florian Wirtz, it seems as if virtually everyone is considering jumping ship. Kicker reports that Andrich is dissatisfied with his role at his current club and wishes to move elsewhere to enhance his German national team prospects.
Andrich has fallen out of favour at Germany’s red company team since the turn of the calendar year. The 30-year-old did not start in any of Leverkusen’s four 2025 Champions League fixtures. Since the winter break, the 18-times-capped German international has logged just 714 of a possible 1920 minutes of action. Andrich has remained unused on the bench in his team’s last two league encounters.
Leverkusen midfielders Exequiel Palacios and Aleix García are currently ahead of Andrich in the pecking order. To maintain his hopes of remaining on German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s radar, the Potsdam native must contemplate finding a team in which he can obtain more playing time.
Andrich’s role in Leverkusen’s historic league-and-and-cup winning campaign last season earned him a lucrative contract extension in August. It was also the Potsdam-native’s current club that helped launch his national team career.
The veteran journeyman only earned his first senior team national cap in November 2023 at the age of 29. Loyalty to Leverkusen nevertheless remains in short supply these days. Andrich’s national team colleague Jonathan Tah confirmed his departure from die Werkself this week.
