Barcelona have been dealt another major injury setback with Robert Lewandowski ruled out of this month’s El Clasico against Real Madrid due to a hamstring problem.

The Polish striker sustained a tear in the biceps femoris of his left thigh and is expected to be out for around a month, according to The Athletic.

Barcelona confirmed the injury earlier today, stating that his recovery period will depend on how the muscle responds to treatment.

The 37-year-old has featured nine times in all competitions this season, scoring four goals.

He had only just regained full fitness after missing the start of the campaign with a separate muscle issue, making his first start in last month’s Champions League win over Newcastle United.

Dani Olmo is also doubtful for EL Clasico after sustaining a muscular injury that forced him to withdraw from the Spain squad. The midfielder is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks.

Lamine Yamal is facing a race against time to recover from a groin problem that ruled him out of international duty.

Barcelona confirmed earlier this week that the teenager is likely to miss between two and three weeks, although he returned to light training on Monday.

Ferran Torres was also forced to leave the Spain squad after suffering hamstring discomfort during their win over Georgia, but the club has described the issue as an overload rather than a tear.

Goalkeepers Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Joan Garcia remain long-term absentees, while Gavi is still recovering from a serious knee injury.

Lewandowski’s lay-off leaves Barca with limited options in attack. Torres, Marcus Rashford and Joao Felix are the likely candidates to lead the line in his absence.
