Fabio Cannavaro, Roberto Carlos and Cafu have joined the voices backing FIFA president Gianni Infantino, adding to endorsements from Javier Zanetti, Javier Pastore, Esteban Cambiasso and Samuel Eto'o as fresh elections near.

The trio voiced support publicly. According to L'Équipe, Infantino, 56, can count on their backing despite criticism from many quarters.

Ballon d'Or winner in 2006 and now Uzbekistan head coach, Fabio Cannavaro wrote on Instagram that football has improved over the past 10 years, that female and male players have been put back at the centre, and that Infantino has done an excellent job at FIFA. He said failing to acknowledge that would be intellectually dishonest. Uzbekistan awarded Infantino the Order of Friendship during a visit in September 2025.

Cafu, an icon of the 1990s and 2000s, now a FIFA ambassador and a member of various working groups, posted a similar statement. Roberto Carlos shared it and said he was 100% in agreement with his former captain.

Elsewhere, New Caledonia and Tahiti have recently reaffirmed their support for Infantino, who is standing for re-election.
