Tottenham Hotspur could travel to the Stadium of Light without as many as 10 players, leaving Roberto De Zerbi with a major selection call for his first match in charge. According to Sunderland Echo, with Spurs fighting to avoid relegation, injuries are piling up before a crucial meeting at both ends of the Premier League table.

Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski have long-term knee injuries that are expected to keep them out, and James Maddison remains sidelined with a knee problem.

Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Ben Davies and Guglielmo Vicario are targeting returns this month, but are unlikely to be risked.

Yves Bissouma and Mathys Tel are also doubts with knocks, although Bissouma was recently seen in training.

There are fresh concerns over Pape Matar Sarr, who sustained a shoulder injury on Senegal duty, missed their win over Gambia and has not yet been seen in training since returning, putting his involvement this weekend in doubt.

A clearer picture is expected when De Zerbi addresses the media later this week, with updates likely on several key players. Régis Le Bris’ Sunderland are pushing for a top-10 finish and retain outside hopes of Europe, while Spurs arrive on Wearside under pressure and short on numbers.
