Speaking at a press conference attended by Get French Football News, Olympique de Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi has said that he believes his striker Mason Greenwood (24) has the future potential of a Ballon d’Or winner.“I see him every day, his potential is enormous, I don’t see any other players in Europe at the same level. He has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or, it’s up to him to decide whether he wants to do everything he can to fight for it or not,” said the Italian coach before Marseille face Monaco in Ligue 1 this weekend. “He has the qualities worthy of the Ballon d’Or. I want him to be more consistent. I know he needs to press with more intensity, he needs to manage the ball better when the team is in trouble, not lose the ball easily but keep it to allow the team to move up. Look at his second goal à la Drogba… I turn around and say to myself, Putain!”The Englishman has scored 13 goals in all competitions so far for Marseille, with his latest brace coming days ago in the UEFA Champions League against Union Saint-Gilloise. Greenwood will face Monaco at the weekend as Les Phocéens look to get back to winning ways after domestic setbacks against Toulouse and Lille. The Englishman still leads the Ligue 1 goal-standings with ten goals so far this season. The Athletic reported several weeks ago that the Englishman still harbours hopes for an England call-up, yet the stance from the English FA remainds unchanged: he is not under consideration. Greenwood has not been considered since his arrest in January 2022. He was later charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling behaviour before the CPS discontinued the case in February 2023, citing withdrawn witnesses and new evidence.GFFN | George Boxall – reporting from La Commanderie, Marseille
