New head coach Roberto De Zerbi, starting his third Premier League campaign, has named Micky Van de Ven as Tottenham captain.

According to L'Équipe, the Dutch defender, 25, takes over from Cristian Romero following his €40m switch to Atlético Madrid.

Van de Ven, capped 24 times with one goal for the Netherlands, leads a five-man captaincy group for this season that also includes Pedro Porro, a World Cup winner with Spain.

Ben Davies, James Maddison and Archie Gray complete the quintet.

De Zerbi said he wants multiple leaders on the pitch and for them to be clear about their status.

The former Marseille coach will be without Van de Ven and Porro for the Premier League opener against Brentford.
