Roberto De Zerbi has ruled first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario out of Sunday’s trip to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light after hernia surgery during the recent break.
According to Sunderland Echo, Spurs hope Vicario could return this month, and De Zerbi said he hopes for next week but does not yet know.
He confirmed Rodrigo Bentancur remains unavailable, with Mohammed Kudus already ruled out earlier this week, but insisted he has enough options to compete and collect points.
He accepted he has not had much luck, viewing Kudus as crucial for that role, yet pointed to attacking depth, naming Kolo Muani, Mathys Tel, Xavi and Richarlison. He also highlighted young talent such as Bergvall, Archie Gray and Xavi Simons, and called Van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro important. He wants to see the same Gallagher he admired at Chelsea.
With Tottenham potentially in the relegation zone by kick-off, he said he remains confident he has the tools to navigate the final seven games and wants his players to enjoy the ball.
For Sunderland, Robin Roefs will be back in contention. Jocelin, Romaine, Bertrand and Simon are sidelined, while Ballard and Nilson are close to returning but short for Tottenham, with the rest available.
