In a significant move for the Qatari football scene, Italian coaching veteran Roberto Mancini is poised to take the helm at Al-Sadd, finalizing a lucrative multi-year agreement with the club.
As reported by the well-connected insider Nicolò Schira, the 60-year-old tactician has reached a verbal agreement to become the new head coach of the Qatari giants. The proposed deal is structured to initially run until June 2026, with Mancini set to earn an annual salary of €5 million.
The contract, however, is designed with a performance-based future. Should Mancini's work impress the Al-Sadd hierarchy, the agreement includes a clear pathway for an extension. This option would see his tenure prolonged until 2028, accompanied by a substantial pay rise to €8 million per year.
This appointment will see Mancini return to the dugout, his most recent position having been as the head coach of the Saudi Arabian national team, which he departed in October 2024. He is slated to succeed the club's current interim manager, Spaniard Sergio Alegre, who is 48.
