Roberto Martinez ‘in talks’ for Netherlands head coach role | OneFootball

De Telegraaf reports that Roberto Martinez is in talks with the Dutch federation over the Netherlands head coach role. The 53-year-old has been out of work since Portugal’s 2026 World Cup last 16 defeat to Spain, 1-0.

Martinez took charge of Belgium in 2016, then led Portugal from January 2023. That defeat ended his Portuguese tenure, and a month on he could already return to international management.

The post is vacant after Ronald Koeman left. The Oranje were eliminated by Morocco in the round of 32 at the World Cup, 1-1 then 3-2 on penalties.

No homegrown candidate has stood out to fill the role. Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said he will not be the next Netherlands head coach.

If Martinez were appointed, he would be the Netherlands’ first foreign head coach since 1978, when Austrian Ernst Happel last held the post.
