Andy Robertson will bring his nine-year spell at Liverpool to a close this summer after the club confirmed the left-back will depart when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Scotland international joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017 and went on to become one of the defining figures of the club’s most successful modern era, making 373 appearances and collecting nine major honours.

During his time at Anfield, Robertson lifted two Premier League titles as well as the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, two EFL Cup trophies, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the FA Community Shield.

However, his role has reduced this season under head coach Arne Slot, with summer signing Milos Kerkez increasingly preferred at left-back. Robertson has started only a handful of league matches during the campaign, and Slot acknowledged that limited minutes played a part in the defender’s decision to move on.

Speaking about Robertson's departure, Slot said: "He had many great seasons over here as a player but I think people got to know him as a great person as well, I got to know him, every team-mate will tell you how funny he is and how great a person he is and that has been shown a lot on social media as well.

"What I remember most about him is the intensity he is always playing with. We have learned something about intensity two days ago, but I can [remember] Robbo making a press from left full-back to right-back a few years ago and I showed that to the players I was working with then.

Robertson is the latest member of the title-winning core assembled under Jürgen Klopp to move on in recent seasons. Mohamed Salah, who arrived at the club in the same summer as Robertson, is also set to depart this year, while Ibrahima Konaté is approaching the end of his current contract.

With further senior figures such as Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Joe Gomez entering the later stages of their deals, Liverpool’s squad continues to evolve as the club reshapes its next cycle under Slot.
