Author of a remarkable and standout season, Robin Risser (21) has undoubtedly been one of the key players in RC Lens’s second-place finish in Ligue 1. These performances earned him the Goalkeeper of the Season award and opened the doors to the French national team, with which he will compete in this summer’s World Cup in the United States.
And while his contract with Les Sang et Or runs through 2030, it didn’t take long for the young Alsatian goalie’s name to be linked to a potential transfer to a higher-caliber club. Notably in the Premier League, where Brighton and Hove, but especially Newcastle United, appear to have set their sights on the 21-year-old.
Rumours of this kind have done little to unsettle the player in question, who sees his future lying with Lens, where he is set to make his Champions League debut. “In my mind, that’s what I want (to stay at Lens). I hope to,” Risser said in an interview with L’Équipe. “There will be discussions with the club, but we’re all on the same page about wanting to continue this journey together. It’s the right place to prove myself.”
