Robin Roefs has already addressed his Sunderland future amid fresh links to Tottenham, after a standout season under Régis Le Bris.

According to Sunderland Echo, Spurs have added the 23-year-old to a summer shortlist as they assess goalkeeper options for next season, and Sunderland are said to be confident of keeping him.

The Dutchman has excelled in his debut Premier League campaign since arriving from NEC Nijmegen for an initial fee of around £nine million plus add-ons, having been little known to fans in England at the time.

He returned in the 1-0 win over Tottenham after an injury against Bournemouth had sidelined him for several games. Melker Ellborg impressed in his absence, yet Roefs’ reinstatement underlined his status as Le Bris’ first choice when fit.

After that win he was linked with a £60 million move to Chelsea, but he played down the noise, stressing he values the trust and appreciation he receives inside the club and is not fixated on outside speculation.

Asked directly about a transfer, he said it was not the time to think about moving and that Sunderland’s promotion and strong performances gave them something to build on next season. His stance now sits alongside talk of Spurs’ interest as they fight relegation. Roefs is said to be a strong candidate to become number one, with Sunderland likely to resist, and Spurs are also thought to be looking at Bart Verbruggen and James Trafford, with Guglielmo Vicario expected to move on.
