Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs has underlined Brian Brobbey’s importance to the team, amid reports in Türkiye linking Fenerbahce with a move for the striker.

"If you're unsure, you shoot the ball forward and he holds them all, or he heads it on, or he runs after it, so that's nice. I think he's shown what he can do at Ajax for years. Maybe it didn't always come out there. Now with even better players around him and the style of play that perhaps really suits him. He's so important to us, and I think we can hardly do without him," he told Viaplay.

The 24-year-old joined from Ajax on deadline day and, after a modest start, has become a key figure under Regis Le Bris. He is Sunderland’s leading Premier League scorer with five, and has displaced Wilson Isidor to start 10 of the last 11 league matches.

Brobbey’s displays have drawn praise from pundits, including Jamie Carragher after his winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

After Monday’s 3-0 win over Burnley, Le Bris said Brobbey is getting better, increasingly strong in his area of the pitch, and a focal point team-mates want to feed. He added that Sunderland can go long to him to beat man-to-man pressure, and though he could have scored once or twice, his work-rate was crucial.
